William H. "Bill" Smith, beloved husband of 66 years to Judie Smith (nee Apke). Devoted father of Scott (Vicki) Smith, Kevin (Chris) Smith and Cheryl (Mike) Bruggeman. Loving grandfather of Lynn Selby, Mandi Tabor, Matt Smith, Lauren Smith, Karlee Hildreth, Meredith Tulloch and Scott Smith. Great grandfather of Nick, Megan, Julia, Jake, Stassie and Kohen. Dear brother of Carol (David) Gibson, Gerri (late Richard) Ortman and Beverly (Jerry) Burbrink. Bill passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Friday, September 22, 2023, age 87. Bill was a 1954 Graduate of Roger Bacon High School. He joined the Cincinnati Police Division in October of 1959 and served 29 1/2 years until April 1989, retiring at the rank of Sergeant. He was Membership Chairman of the Mt. Airy Civic Club; Secretary, then President of the GO-GO Investment Club; member of the Police Athletic Club and participated in the International Police and Fire Olympics, bowling and golfing around the world; employed by Gerbus Bros/Trans Ash Co. as Chief Safety Officer after retiring from CPD. His love of golf continued until he was well into his 80's. Bill will be fondly remembered for his honesty, integrity and great sense of humor and for his ability to "party hearty"!
