In loving memory of W William "Bill" Backus, III, who will forever hold a special place in our hearts. Bill, a cherished son, brother, uncle, great-uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at the age of 75. He was born on July 28, 1951, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to the late Ruth Katherine (nee Vollman) and the late Walter William Backus, Jr.

Bill's warm spirit and laughter will be deeply missed by his siblings-Mary Kay (Gary) Jansing, Jim (Dawn) Backus, Bob (Christy) Backus, Kathy Kirk, Nancy Backus, and the late Carolyn Lyon. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews who will fondly remember him for his kindness, dry sense of humor, quiet air, and gentle nature.

A proud graduate of St. Xavier High School, Bill left his mark on the swim team and continued his academic journey at the University of Dayton, where he earned his undergraduate degree. His pursuit of excellence led him to Boston University, where he proudly achieved his Doctorate in Law. Bill was a proud supporter and avid fan of University of Dayton basketball. He cherished the friendships that formed during his time at UD and endured through his recent 50th reunion with UD classmates. Bill also loved sharing donuts and jokes with his longtime coworkers.

Bill's love of family was strong. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially during the holidays, and he loved seeing the family grow with the next generation of young ones.

Friends and family are invited to join in honoring Bill's life with a Mass at Good Shepherd, 8815 E Kemper Rd, Cincinnati, OH 45249 on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at 12:00 PM. Prior to the Mass, there will be a visitation held at Good Shepherd from 10:45 AM- 11:45 AM, allowing loved ones to gather, reminisce, and celebrate Bill's life.

In recognition of the exceptional care received during his final days, the family kindly requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Cincinnati , P.O. Box 633597 Cincinnati, OH 45263-3597.

As we celebrate Bill's journey, we remember him not just for his achievements but for the warmth and love he shared with all those around him. May his spirit continue to inspire us, and may he rest in eternal peace.
