Mary Ann (nee Kallage named at Birth as Maria Anna) Frey, beloved wife of the late Ronald J. Frey. Devoted mother of Jo Ann Frey, John (Amy) Frey, Carol (Chris) Clark and Greg Frey. Loving grandmother of Anthony (Erin) Frey, Katie (Trevor) Kramer, Campbell Clark, Jackson Frey, Lucy Frey, Adam Hammann and Allie Hammann. Great grandmother of Logan Kramer, Hailey Frey, Charlie Kramer, Maddie Kramer, Mia Frey and Payton Hammann. Dear sister of Esther (Kallage) Gindling and the late Adalbert Kallage. Mary Ann was born into a German speaking household, the daughter of German immigrants. She learned English in a one-room schoolhouse in Oketo, Kansas. Mary Ann was blessed with musical talent. She began playing piano when she was a young girl. Her skills were noticed and she was invited to attend high school at the Immaculate Conception Academy in Oldenburg, Indiana. There, she played the piano for Christmas and spring recitals. In her senior year, she was selected to play the coveted piano solo, Fritz Kreisler's Caprice Viennois, for the spring recital. She played Mendelssohn's Concerto, Op.25 with the Academy's orchestra for her high school graduation in 1949. For nearly 40 years she played the organ and piano for St James Church Sunday masses, Christmas and Easter celebrations, funerals and weddings. She was a member of St. James Choir and cherished the friendships as much as she did the music. Mary Ann loved the "Sound of Music", Mounds Candy Bars, Enjoyed Senior Citizens outings and playing and winning at BINGO. Mary Ann passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 12, 2022, age 91 after a 2 year battle with Alzheimer's disease.
