Pfeil, Ludwig Frederich "Lud"

Beloved husband of the late Patricia "Pat" (nee Cummings) Pfeil. Devoted father of Kathleen Pfeil Schamer, David (Mary) Pfeil, Lisa (Chris) Clark and Patti (Michael) Horton. Loving papa of Michael (Kai) Schamer, Kelly (Marcus) Schamer Baber, Justin (Kristen) Clark, Laura (Matthew) Schamer, Nina Clark, Joshua (Kendra) Pfeil, Lily Clark, Ava Horton and Adin. Great grandpa of Hunter. Son of the late Heinrich Ludwig and Elsa (nee Luckermann) Pfeil. Dear brother of the late Alfred Ludwig Pfeil. Nephew of the late Magdalena "Martha" Luckermann and late Christoph "Fred" Luckermann. Also survived by best friend, Ed Sayre, family friends and caregivers Ronnie and Dottie and other family and friends.

Lud was a devoted Catholic who lived a life of selfless dedication to his family. After serving in the United States Army from 1954 to 1956, he met the love of his life, Patricia "Pat" (nee Cummings) Pfeil. They married on October 10, 1959 and raised their four children in the home he personally built. He supported them with his tireless work ethic, by performing tough commercial plumbing jobs under often harsh conditions for decades. His expertise earned him dual plumbing licenses in Ohio and Kentucky, and his trustworthy reputation grew his own practice, Ludwig F. Pfeil Plumbing, Inc. until his retirement at 62 years old.

Lud and Pat's undying love and care exemplified everything a marriage should be, and he remained forever faithful even after her passing in 1999. He continued to lead his family as a singular rock of support for over two decades longer, and his grandchildren will remember him as "the greatest grandpa in the world." Words cannot express how much we will miss his stories, his humor, his smile, and his stabilizing, comforting presence. He always told us, "I love you more than you know." It is with aching hearts that we now let our Dad and Papa go to reunite with his beloved wife, whom he has waited to see again for so long.  We love you more than you know.

The family would like to thank Heartland Hospice for their care given to Lud. Lud passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, December 12, 2020, age 88. Mass of Christian Burial at St. James Church (White Oak), 3565 Hubble Rd., on Wednesday (December 16) at 10:30 am. Face Masks are required and social distancing must be practiced.
