Obituary

LaVerne (née Armbruster) Krismer, age 89, of Cincinnati, Ohio, passed away peacefully on October 6, 2026. LaVerne lived a life rich in love, adventure, and community service.

A devoted wife to the late James J. Krismer for over 64 years, LaVerne was a loving mother to five daughters: Kathleen Krismer Wood, Mary Ellen Krismer, Theresa (Fred) Hammerle, Ann (Eric) Reichert, and Martha (Steven) Schneider. She was a cherished grandmother to nine grandchildren: Eric Wood, Krista (J. Patrick) Rohan, Dana Hammerle (fiancé Ryan Ziels), Nicholas Reichert, Rebecca Reichert, Justin Schneider, Benjamin Schneider, Jessica Schneider (fiancé Billy Stath), and Brian Schneider, and a proud great-grandmother to Alexis and Shelby Rohan. LaVerne was also the sister of the late Dr. David Armbruster.

She grew up in St. Bernard and attended OLA High School. She was 1 of only 4 girls in her graduating class who went on to college, and she earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry with a Minor in Math. Her collegiate memories included a memorable jitterbug dance at the Friar's Club with Jim, a moment that sparked a lifelong partnership.

LaVerne and Jim enjoyed attending the Cincinnati Pops concerts for over 50 years. Together they traveled the world, exploring destinations such as Germany, New Zealand, Denmark, Norway, England, Canada, Australia, Belize, Guatemala, France, and Italy. LaVerne’s other interests included reading, book club, playing bridge and conversations with friends and anyone she met.

When her youngest daughter started high school, LaVerne began doing the book work for the family's greenhouse business and became a familiar face at both the greenhouses and Findlay Market retail.

LaVerne was one of the first women lay distributors of communion at St. Ignatius Church. In her later years, LaVerne continued to dedicate herself to serving her community. She participated in the church's cleaning committee and volunteered with math tutoring at Diamond Oaks, assisting adults pursuing their GEDs. Her compassionate spirit extended to weekly visits at a local nursing home.

LaVerne even had a moment in the spotlight when she appeared as an extra in the 1992 movie "The Public Eye" which had many scenes that were filmed in Cincinnati and Union Terminal.

A lover of life's simple pleasures, LaVerne had a fondness for Grippo's salty pretzels and found satisfaction in the little things. When asked to express her ultimate dream, she reflected, "I think I did everything." This statement embodies the joy and fulfillment she experienced throughout her life. Through her kindness, laughter, and unwavering spirit, LaVerne Krismer will be deeply missed but never forgotten. Her legacy of love will continue to shine in the hearts of all who knew her.

LaVerne's family will hold a visitation at Frederick Funeral Home, 2553 Banning Rd. on Sunday (October18) from 4:00 pm-7:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Ignatius Church, 5222 N Bend Rd, on Monday (October 19) at 11:00 am. Her memory may be honored with flowers or a donation to the charity of your choice. Special condolences may be expressed at frederickfh.com
