Kay Frances Hampel (nee Shoup) of Cincinnati, Ohio passed away in her home on Wednesday, March 22, 2023 at age 72. Born on December 30, 1950 in Marion, Ohio, Kay was the second of three children of the late George E. Shoup and Frances "Ann" (Fleck) Shoup. Growing up, Kay spent her summers working for the Marion City Parks Department. In 1973, Kay graduated from the University of Dayton with a degree in education. Following college, Kay moved to Cincinnati where she worked as a middle school English teacher at Pleasant Run Middle School and concurrently earned a master's degree in education from Xavier University in 1975. Upon retiring from teaching, Kay worked as a mail carrier with the United States Postal Service and as an electronics technician at Valco Industries. Kay married Robert "Bob" Hampel in 1984 and the two were married for over 39 years. They were blessed with two sons, Adam and Aaron. Kay also had two stepchildren, Joseph Hampel and Debbie Sparkes. Throughout her life, Kay enjoyed spending time at her parent's cottage on the Sandusky River near Lake Erie. Kay will be remembered fondly for her love of Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy! , which she and Bob watched together every evening. Kay was also a parishioner of St. Ann's Catholic Church. Kay is survived by her husband, Bob Hampel; children, Adam (Emily) Hampel and Aaron (Laura) Hampel; stepchildren, Joseph Hampel and Debbie Sparkes; and five grandchildren, whom she loved dearly. Kay is also survived by her brother, Jay (Joan) Shoup of Marion; sister, Judy (John) Lybarger; and nieces and nephews. Kay is preceded in death by her parents, George and Ann Shoup. A mass of Christian burial celebrating Kay's life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 30 at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Groesbeck.
