John Andrew Petras, a cherished Husband, Dad, Papa, G Papa and friend, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 6, 2026, in Cincinnati, Ohio, at the age of 81. Born on February 16, 1945, in Youngstown, Ohio to the late Andrew and late Katherine (nee Scherl) Petras. John's life was a tapestry woven with love, laughter, and an unwavering dedication to his family.John was married to his beloved wife, Frances Maria (nee Starke) Petras, for 59 wonderful years. Together, they built a life filled with love and laughter, raising their devoted daughter Michelle (Steve Metz) Brunst. He relished his role as Papa to Mason, Aubrey (Erich), and Emma, and took great joy in being G Papa to Owen. John's boundless affection for his grandchildren was evident as he proudly cheered them on at their various events, always eager to support and encourage them. He also leaves behind his dear sister, Linda McMahon, and his nephews, Ryan and Collin McMahon.He was a man of passion and zest for life. He enjoyed golfing, testing his luck at the casino, and traveling to new destinations. In recent years, he found great pleasure in tackling various puzzles, always seeking a new challenge. John's warmth and sense of humor made him a friend to many, and his kindness will not be forgotten. He celebrated life in every moment, and he inspired those around him to do the same.

In honor of John's remarkable life, visitation will be held at Frederick Funeral Home, located at 2553 Banning Rd., on Friday, September 11, from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service at 2:00 p.m. Family and friends are invited to gather together to celebrate John's life and the legacy of love he leaves behind.In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, reflecting John's compassionate spirit and desire to help others.Though we grieve his absence, we celebrate the incredible life he lived and the profound impact he had on all who knew him.
