It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Joan F. Shay, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, who left us on November 7, 2025, at the age of 92. Born on October 11, 1933, in Cincinnati, OH to the late Jacob and late Florence (nee Eckstein) Rieman. Joan lived a life filled with love, creativity, and unwavering faith.

Joan, who was the cherished wife of the late Boots Shay, is survived by her devoted children: Sherry Ross, Terry (David) Bock, Steve (Joan) Shay, and Patrick "Rick" (Cecelia) Shay. Also, beloved "Mom" to Ed and Dianne Weyer and the family of Georgia. As a proud grandmother, she leaves behind a legacy of love in her grandchildren: Tony (Jen) Ross, Becky Ross, Dan (Caitlin) Ross, David (Liz) Bock, Jonathan (Kelley) Bock, Laura (Joseph) Vita, Julie Shay, Erin Shay, Katie Shay, Cecily (Steve) Ison, and Abby (Andrew) Ison. Joan was also blessed with many great-grandchildren, whose laughter and joy brought her immense happiness. Also survived by her brother, Jim (Dimps) Rieman and sister-in-law, Ginny Rieman. Preceded in death by her brothers, Glen (Betty) Rieman, Dick Rieman and Dale Rieman and her sister, Shirley (Jerry) Ruberg. Joan will be missed by her many nieces and nephews.

Throughout her life, Joan found joy in simple pleasures. She had a passion for cross stiching, which brought warmth to the hearts of many, and enjoyed the delights of baking. She could often be found working on word puzzles, a testament to her quick wit and sharp mind. A true lover of stories, Joan cherished her moments spent listening to books on tape, immersing herself in tales that sparked her imagination. Her faith was her anchor; praying the rosary was a cherished ritual that kept her spirit close to God.

Most importantly, Joan was a devoted family woman who cherished every moment spent with her loved ones. Her home was always open, and her heart was always full, welcoming family and friends alike. The joy she found in their laughter, conversations, and shared moments created a tapestry of memories that will forever warm the hearts of all who knew her.

A Funeral Mass was held at the convenience of the family, allowing them to honor and celebrate Joan's life in a personal and meaningful way. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Queen City Hospice, an organization that embodies the love and compassion that Joan so deeply cherished.

As we remember Joan F. Shay, let us celebrate her wonderful life, a life marked by kindness, creativity, love, and an abiding faith that inspired all who had the privilege to know her. Her spirit will live on in the hearts of her family and friends, who will hold fond memories of her for years to come.
