Jeannette Nye Lohner (88) of Cincinnati, OH, passed away on Monday, August 31, 2026. Born January 1, 1938, to Glenn and Esther (West) Nye in Wheeling, WV, she graduated from Woodward High School, Cincinnati, after which she worked in the Proctor and Gamble Library and attended the University of Cincinnati Evening College to study journalism.

She met William "Bill" Lohner at Coney Island's Moonlite Gardens where he asked her to dance and the rest is history, getting married in 1957. They had four sons, Tim (Joyce), Tom, Bill (Candy), and Joe (Vera) and have welcomed ten grandchildren, Beth, Jessica (Kreg), Steve (Michelle), Daniel (Stephanie), Zach, Samantha, Josh, Amelia, Micah, and Gigi, and three great-grandchildren, Matthew, Kaylee, and Georgia. She is survived by her sister, Fran (Nye) Skinner and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband, parents and brothers Jack and James.

After staying home to raise her four boys, Jeannette worked at White Oak Presbyterian Church, Northminster Presbyterian Church, Twin Towers Senior Living Community and the Down Syndrome Association. She was a charter member of White Oak Presbyterian Church (now Resounding Joy), served as a church elder and wrote "View from the Pew," which featured the experiences of 67 church members as told through individual interviews. Jeannette was active in her community, volunteering at SON Ministries and serving as Co-Chair of the Northwest Community Carol Fest, an ecumenical celebration of Christmas which raised nearly $50,000 during its 14-year run. She wrote the play "Strings," which was presented by White Oak Presbyterian Church as a Lenten Program. In recognition of her work, she received a "10 Who Cared Award" from the Community Press Newspapers in 1992 for making a difference in her community. She was also a free-lance writer, publishing articles in a variety of publications on topics ranging from religion to family to nature.

She enjoyed writing, playing in the bell choir, bible studies, visiting with friends and traveling with Bill. She always supported her son's interests, whether it be Cub Scouts, marching band, piano lessons, sports, homework assignments or baking favorite desserts for their birthdays. She could pump up a tire, mow the lawn or mend a scraped knee, always being there for her family. She also taught her sons how to dance formally and insisted they learn how to do house work. She was an advocate for her grand-daughter Beth through her work with the Down Syndrome Association. She loved butterflies, humming birds, zinnias and her Christian faith was important to her.

The family thanks the caregivers at Ohio Living Llanfair for their compassionate care, especially during her last few weeks. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 a.m. at Resounding Joy Church, 8735 Cheviot Rd. Cincinnati, OH 45251. Lunch to be provided at church following the burial at St. James Cemetery.
