In loving memory of Herbert E. Menkhaus, who graced this world with his presence on December 20, 1928, and peacefully departed on April 18, 2025, secure in the love of Christ and his family. Born to the late Edward and late Lillian Menkhaus in Cincinnati, Ohio, Herb lived a life filled with love, laughter, and purpose, leaving a legacy that will be forever remembered.

Herb spent nearly 75 beautiful years with his beloved wife, Allene, sharing countless moments of joy, laughter, and dance that illustrated the deep bond they cultivated throughout their lives together.  Together they created a warm and loving home for their children Linda (Raoul) Ballhaus, Mike (Tasha) Menkhaus, David (Natalie) Menkhaus, Mark (Becky) Menkhaus, and Darla (Mike) Ober. His legacy lives on through his caring grandchildren: Jason Ballhaus, Jenny Holbrock, Christy Zowtiak, Lauren Good, Alex Menkhaus, Jeremy Menkhaus, Evan Menkhaus, Anastasia Goodman, Amy Menkhaus, Angela Menkhaus, George Menkhaus, Tara Menkhaus, Brynne Menkhaus, Mark Menkhaus Jr., Matt Menkhaus, Nicole Snowden, Zac Ober, and Jessica Schmidt. His love extended as he was a proud great-grandfather to 46 and a great-great-grandfather to 3. Herb also shared a special bond with his siblings, Ron (Liz) Menkhaus, Carol (Paul) Miniard, the late Grace (late James) Prendergast, and the late Muriel Menkhaus. Herb's family was the center of his universe, and the love he shared will live on in their hearts.

Herb grew up working at F. Menkhaus Sons, Inc. the general contracting company founded by his grandpa. He took engineering and business classes at UC at night and his role in the company evolved from job site to office. He cherished working along side his dad.

An avid golfer and fisherman, Herb's love for the outdoors was matched only by his passions for telling jokes; singing; whistling; coaching; bowling; ballroom, square, line & any other dancing. He was an accomplished handyman, always willing to lend a helping hand and support local charities. His 50+ years of leadership as President and then Chairman of the Cincinnati Catholic Cemetery Society, his 40+ years of service to Sacred Heart Church, and his tenure as President of the Dad's Club and member of the Parish Council of St. Catherine Church were marked by compassion and dedication, reflecting his deep commitment to his Catholic faith and community.

In honor of Herb's life, a visitation will be held at Frederick Funeral Home on Sunday, April 27, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, allowing friends and family to come together in remembrance and celebration of the incredible man he was. A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at St. Bernard Church-Taylor Creek, 7130 Harrison Ave on Monday, April 28, 2025, at 10:00 AM, where we will gather to share stories, reflect on his life, and find comfort in each other's presence.

Herb Menkhaus will be remembered not only for the love he shared within his family but also for the impact he made in his community.
