Helen (nee Ficker) Taphorn, beloved wife of the late Urban Louis Taphorn. Devoted mother of Linda McGohon, Sharon Taphorn, Tony (late Cindy) Taphorn, Elaine (late Kurt) Hildebrand, Cathy (Mark) Dunevant, Jim (Lisa) Taphorn, Rick (Lesa) Taphorn, Dan Taphorn, Brian (Laura) Taphorn and the late Urban Taphorn Jr. Loving grandmother of 19 grandchildren and great grandmother of 9 great grandchildren. Preceded in death by her 5 siblings. It is with heavy hearts that we share the news that Helen Taphorn has left this earth. How do you memorialize a loving wife of 55 years, a mother of 9, grandmother of 19, great- grandmother of 9, mother-in-law to 6. To say she touched many lives would be an understatement. She possessed a quiet strength, while not always apparent, served all of us who knew her. In addition to being a wonderful matriarch to our family, mom was an avid reader and a baker. She loved sharing her baked goods with family and friends as much as we loved eating them. Mom also loved to read about real people, past & present, and discuss current events and the state of the world. She had a great breadth of knowledge and we fought to have her on our team during Trivial Pursuit matches because her team usually won. She loved to watch Jeopardy and never stopped surprising us with her knowledge. The past few years one of her favorite things was to sit on the porch and marvel at the beauty of nature and the ever changing sky. Now she is home among the heavens with her beloved Urban. We miss you already. Helen passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 11, 2021, age 97.
