Helen R. Herbert- Bradley

Cincinnati, Ohio – Helen Ruby Herbert-Bradley a k a Mrs. Bradley, Fun Aunt Helen, Ruby and Mom passed peacefully in the care of Hospice of Hamilton, Sunday, July 4 , 2021 at 92 years of age.

Helen was the cherished wife of the late William Jack Bradley . Next door neighbors in South Cumminsville during the 2 nd World War and after Jack was discharged from the USMC , Helen and Jack began a five (5) year courtship and married April 195 1 at the North Side Methodist Church, Cincinnati Ohio.  They were happily married until Jack' s passing in January 2003.  Helen and Jack are survived by their only child, beloved/loving daughter, Lynn Denise Bradley.

August 1, 1928 Helen Ruby Herbert was born at home in New Augusta, Marion County, Indiana to Syrilda Bolin - Herbert and Harry C. Herbert .  She came into the world having three (3) brothers; Bud (Melvin), Fats (Forrest C.) and Cecil (Vernon C.) and in 1930 her sister, Midge (Mildred) came along. In the summer of 1936 Syrilda & Harry packed Helen, Midge and the boys up and moved to Cincinnati, Ohio laying down roots on Dawson Avenue in South Cumminsvill e .  There Helen attended Garfield Grade School and Hughes High School, graduating in 1946. Not long after that she began working at the North Side Bank & Trust Co., until she and Jack married April 1951. From that point on she was a wife , homemaker and in Apri l 1952 became a mother and never retired from these roles! After moving to Green Township in 1955 she learned how to drive and was off and running, never looking back until it was time to meet Lynn at the school bus or to prepare dinner before Jack returned home from a day at work.

Aunt Helen is survived by nieces & nephews, great and great-great nieces & nephews.  They all kept Fun Aunt Helen 92 years young ! Sadly, Aunt Helen was preceded by her brother/sister-in-law's (Cecil & Nora) daughter Martha K. Herbert-Ruhl , April 25, 2021 .

Joseph O. Hail, a friend of Lynn 's , thought of Mrs. Bradley like a mother , gives special thanks for her presence in his life .  Joe and "Mom" (as he affectionally called her) would often have lunch at the Dent Skyline and talk weekly to catch up and see if there was anything that needed to be done around her home.

Helen was a social butterfly.  As a young adult she belonged to the North Side Methodist Church Youth Grou p, forming friendships that would last a lifetime. Attending Hughes High School during the 2 nd World War Helen had the opportunity to become a pen-pal with a girl around her age, from England.  That someone was Hazel N.H. Preece .  Although Helen and Hazel never had the opportunity to meet , what started as a school pen-pal project turned into a written friendship that would span 70+ years. Moving to Green Township, her daughter attended Springmyer Elementary School where Helen was a PTA member and on the Springmyer Bowling League .  The League played on Thursday mornings at Western Bowl and years later at Stumps. The League's team name s may have changed over the next 55+ years Helen bowled , but the bowlers, they always stayed the same or until they could no longer roll the ball down the alley! Kudos to Captain Velda, Marion, Nora, Jean, Joyce, Toddy, Edna & Ruth and all the other bowlers .  During the school year on Monday evenings they would all play volleyball in the Springmyer school gym and more than likely, had a good time after !  Helen's bowling buddies would come to be know as the "Mack Raiders" in the Bradley household.

Helen volunteered her skill of knitting to the University of Cincinnati Hospital, knitting very small baby caps for the newborn babies.  Her knitting skill also created prayer shawls for the prayer shawl ministry at Bayley Place in Delhi Township and she would assist in sewing labels onto the prayer shawls.

Helen & Jack traveled throughout the United States by planes, trains, tour bus and automobile .  Once and only once did Helen get Jack overseas.  Ireland.

All-in- all Helen had a very good life.  She was as healthy as a horse (as they say!) until a few days before her passing. For that matter, so was Jack. Helen & Jack where opposites in many ways, but in spirit they were together.  Each loved the other till death do them part.

So, in that spirit and because you know its happy hour somewhere...Make yourself a 100% proof bourbon Manhattan on the rocks with sweet vermouth and a maraschino cherry w/stem. Salute!
