Donald James Dickinson, 93, passed in peace on October 4, 2023.

Don was born in Cincinnati, OH, on July 9, 1930 to the late Charles and Adalia Dickinson. He graduated from Roger Bacon High School in 1948 and attended Xavier University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in mathematics. After graduation in 1953, Don entered into the United States Army and advanced to the rank of First Lieutenant before his discharge in 1955. He married Anna C. Schmidt on January 11, 1958, and welcomed son Don in 1958 and daughter Amy in 1965.

Don began his sales career at Charles Bruning Company in Dayton before landing at Bell+Howell and retiring in 1990 as Regional Sales Manager. He spent his post-retirement years assisting families with long-term care protection and received his certification by the Ohio Department of Insurance in 1997.

An exceptional athlete, Don showed his many talents across the ball field and golf course - he played ball until the age of 65 and his last round of golf at age 90. He always had a few sports stories to share that highlighted his talents, including a double, triple, and home run hit in a single game and the coveted hole-in-one. Don had a passion following Xavier basketball, the Bengals, and the Reds, coordinating his every move around when games were televised.

He valued his Catholic education, devoutly sharing his faith and love of God and Church throughout his life.  Upon retirement, when not on the golf course, Don would spend hours organizing church volunteers for monthly rotating visits to local nursing homes for prayer, readings, and communion.

He could talk sports all day long, was honest to a fault, found luck around every corner, and had wonderful loving companions with each new chapter of his life. With each new direction, each new journey, Ann, Janet, Norma, and Carole enriched his daily life and are remembered and honored for their genuine love, care, and kindness in each sunrise.

The last few years were particularly difficult as he aged, and Carole's compassion and incredibly strong spirit over the last 9 years have been beyond measure. His children are immensely grateful for her devotion to their dad and her example of Christ's love.

Don was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 36 years, Anna C. Dickinson, sister Wilma (Gene) Schlotthauer and brother Robert Dickinson.  He is survived by his last love Carole Johansen, son Don (Joy) Dickinson, daughter Amy (Greg) Woodruff, grandchildren Michelle (Grant) Hoffman, Donnie (Liz) Dickinson, Kevin (Autumn) Dickinson, James Woodruff, Anthony Woodruff, and 12 great-grandchildren. Visitation is at 9:00 am on October 16th at Frederick Funeral Home, 2553 Banning Road, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am at St. James Church in White Oak.
