With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Connie A. Kampschmidt, a caring daughter, cherished wife, devoted mother, adored grandmother, and beloved sister. Born in Bethesda, Maryland on July 27, 1952, to her parents Audrey and late Robert Sontag. Connie was a beacon of strength and compassion throughout her life. Following a life dedicated to education and community service, Connie peacefully passed away on September 22, 2024, at the age of 72 in the embrace of her loving family.

Known as a sports enthusiast, she displayed exceptional athleticism from a young age, excelling in volleyball and basketball, which carried on through her college years at the University of Cincinnati, where she was recognized as the Athlete of the Year and received the prestigious C Ring for her leadership qualities before graduating in 1974.

After graduating, Connie's life was marked by a deep dedication to education and community service as she embarked on a remarkable 50-year career in education, with 33 of those years spent at McAuley and later Mercy McAuley High School. As the founding principal at Mercy McAuley High School she not only shaped the school's foundation but also impacted countless lives along the way. Her contributions were hailed with her induction into the Mercy High School Athletic Hall of Fame in 1988 and later into the LaRosa's High School Hall of Fame in 1991. Her commitment to shaping young minds and fostering a nurturing environment left an indelible mark on all who had the pleasure of knowing her and was a testament to her lasting influence.

Connie's involvement in the Cincinnati community was profound, as she remained a faithful fan for the McAuley Mohawks, Mercy McAuley Wolves, Cincinnati Reds and the University of Cincinnati Bearcats athletics program. Her involvement echoed her passion for both sports and nurturing connections as she embodied the true spirit of love, support, and generosity in all aspects of her life

While her professional accomplishments were many, Connie's greatest source of pride lay in her family, she found immense joy spending quality time with them and watching her children, nieces, nephews, and grandchildren participate in sports. As the wife of Rick Kampschmidt, she shared 47 years of cherished memories and unwavering love. Connie's spirit lives on through her children Kevin (Karen) Kampschmidt, Lisa (Jeff) Lasita, Kelly (Chris) Bailey, and in the hearts of her treasured grandchildren Reed, Drew, Brayden, Blake, Preston and Hannah. She was a pillar of support for her siblings Pam (Tom) Schroth, Steve Sontag, Tim (late Diane) Sontag and Ted (Lisa) Sontag and their families. Connie will forever hold a special place in the hearts of her family, and her memory will live on through stories filled with love and laughter.

A visitation to celebrate Connie's life will be held on Sunday (September 29) from 2:00pm - 6:00pm at LaSalle High School, 3091 N. Bend Rd. Mass of Christian burial will take place at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 5361 Dry Ridge Rd. on Monday (September 30) at 11:00am.  In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Cure SMA foundation , or Good Samaritan Hospital Foundation , 375 Dixmyth Avenue Cincinnati, OH 45220 or American Cancer Society , American Cancer Society P.O.
