Connie (nee Martin) Harrell, beloved wife of 36 years to Neil Harrell. Devoted mother of Matt (Ashley Gering) Reggin, Justin Harrell and Anne (Jesse) Stockdon. Loving grandmother of Mason, Wyatt and Opal. Caring daughter of the late Don and Virginia (nee Lohmiller) Martin. Dear sister of Cathie Martin, Don (late Georgia) Martin Jr., Rob (Connie) Martin, JoAnne (Bob) Daniels and late Doug Martin. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Connie was born and, except for a year, lived her entire life in Cincinnati in the neighborhoods of Over-the-Rhine, South Fairmont, Westwood and Mt. Airy. She attended Hughes High School during the civil unrest of the late 1960s and was a graduate of West High. She attended a year at Oberlin College in Oberlin, Ohio where she made lifelong friends. Connie spent nearly her entire professional life as a schedule maker for Queen City Metro, now known as Go-Metro. She loved her job and got to know the map of Cincinnati better than most, a skill for which for years, her non-native husband, Neil, took full advantage of. Connie and Neil met, and fell in love, at Queen City Metro. This year they would have celebrated their 37th anniversary on April 5th. Connie and her Metro co-worker, John Cicmanec, used to walk on their lunch hour following Mary Anna DuSablon's 1998 book "Walking the Steps of Cincinnati." They quickly found that many things had changed since 1998. One thing led to another and in 2014, Connie and John's updated version of the book was published by Ohio University Press. From Amazon: "In writing their descriptions of the walks, authors Connie J. Harrell and John Cicmanec have retraced each path and taken all new photographs of the steps as well as architectural and natural landmarks along the way. Cartographer Brian Balsley has drawn a fresh set of maps, and Roxanne Qualls, vice-mayor of Cincinnati, has graciously written a new foreword." Connie was immensely proud of this accomplishment, as was her husband of her, and gave a well attended presentation on the book at the Winton Centre at Winton Woods. She also promoted the book in person at the Books by the Banks Festival at the Duke Energy Center, and at a couple of local bookstores. Throughout her life, Connie loved to sew, read mystery novels, take photographs, ride bikes, run, hike, and camp, (especially at Brown County State Park in Indiana). She loved watching The Andy Griffith Show, Perry Mason and Family Feud. She also loved to meet her girlfriends for lunch and travel to see them at their various homes in Indiana and Ohio. Trips were taken to Gatlinburg, Tenn. and Charleston, South Carolina. In July, 2021, she and her friend, Linda Kuhr, took an epic cross country driving trip to San Diego, CA with sight seeing stops along the way. Connie and Neil helped raise their blended family of three children along with Matt's dad, Jeff Reggin, and Anne and Justin's mom, Linda Rohling. With her husband, she was caretaker to many cats and dogs, all of whom were also family, and most of whom were rescues of one type or another. Of all the things she loved, Connie loved her husband, children, grandchildren and pets the most, not necessarily in that order. We all love her dearly and miss her. Her passing has left a hole in our hearts. Connie passed away on Friday, February 24, 2023, age 71.
