Adrianus Cornelis "Jos" van Gils Adrianus Cornelis van Gils, affectionately known as "Jos," passed away on October 6, 2026, at the age of 70. He was born on November 12, 1955, in Breda, Netherlands to the late Catharina Adriana van Merrienboer and Franciscus Antonius van Gils. Jos was a devoted husband to Debora van Gils (née O'Brien) for an incredible 44 years and was a cherished father to his two beloved children, Marcel (Monique) van Gils and Juliette van Gils.
Jos was a proud grandfather, bringing joy and love to the lives of Rafael, Freya, and Ezekiel. He will also be deeply missed by his brother, Frank (Christa) van Gils, and by his late sister, Irma (late Wout) van Meel. Jos was a cherished brother-in-law to the late Shawn (Amy) O'Brien, Barbara (Chris Udry) O'Brien, late Julie Schmitz (Steve and Peg Schmitz), Phillip (Mary Beth) O'Brien, Patti (Tim) Hafner, and Peggy (Paul) Behm. He was a beloved uncle, to Teun, Veerle (Marijn), Hendrik, Mireille, Bjorn, Joep, Gwen, Shea, Cleo, Sophia (Eli), Alex (Rachel), late Jon, Kelley (Brandon), Collin (Abby), Paul (Erin), Mariah, Adam, Marty (Maggie), and Joe (Aoife). Great uncle of Noa, Fay, Gijs, Eli, Zoe, Thane, Claudia, Daphne, and Penelope. Also survived by many cousins and friends.
Jos was an accomplished interior architect, known for his creativity and passion for design. Beyond his professional success, he found immense joy in the simple pleasures of life. He loved watching, coaching and playing soccer, immersing himself in nature, and indulging his wanderlust as he traveled. Music brought him joy, and he often found peace in painting, capturing the beauty of the world through his artistic lens. However, nothing was more important to Jos than his family, who were the foundation of his life and his greatest source of pride.
A celebration of Jos's life will take place on a future date. Family and friends are warmly invited to join us in honoring his memory and the profound impact he made on all of our lives. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to be made to a charity of your choice in Jos's name, as a testament to his generous spirit.
Jos's love, laughter, and warmth will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew him. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness and a reminder to cherish every moment with our loved ones.
